about

New York, NY – Hierophant (Alex Van Gils, Alec Goldfarb, and Carrie Frey) started out as a weekly music-making check-in in the early days of the pandemic time void, a way to maintain sanity and navigate the newly hollow emotional landscape of the city. This A side/B side single puts into sound a few months’ worth of contemplation on love, isolation, and self-knowledge. Drawing on text from bell hooks’ all about love and Derrida’s The Work of Mourning, “obelisk” is a tender, inscrutable marker for a particular time. B side “summoning” does what it says on the box, tracing a sort of map leading from unquiet thoughts towards clarity.
